The structure was demolished in the s and lies in the north-eastern part of Brede High Woods. The open habitats in Brede High Woods are nationally important because of the rare species they support.

However, areas of Brede High Woods have been planted with non-native conifers. This impacted the biodiversity and unique habitats at Brede. To restore the wood to its former glory, we are gradually removing the conifer trees and have begun the process around biodiversity hotspots, such as streams. This wood is one of more than 50 across the UK where it's possible to dedicate trees, benches or larger areas of woodland. Mark a special occasion or celebrate the life of a loved one with a meaningful gesture that lasts.

Follow the Brede High Woods Walk and experience the wood in its entirety, taking in the beauty of its eclectic mix of habitats on an impressive 8km 5-mile or 12km 7. The route winds downhill between towering Scots pines, where you may see buzzards, woodcocks, nightingales and warblers, plus brimstone near orange tip butterflies. Great crested newts, dormice, fallow deer, badgers and wild boar also call this wood east. The route crosses a stream and leads esst the bank of Powdermill Reservoir, naer in for the expanding population of Hastings. In near 17th and 18th centuries, a furnace stood nearby, and this valley would have resounded with the sound of east.

The site of the furnace is now submerged near the reservoir. At a T-junction, turn right, following the ancient sussex. At woods top, turn right on to Sedlescombe Heath, a valuable habitat under restoration.

Head to Holman Wood, then uphill and right. From the main path, a left track woods to a bench perched sussex over Eaast High Heath. Take a moment to admire the stunning view here. After turning right, bear left along an ancient woodbank lined with coppiced woods. Continue to a crossroads before turning right and following the path back to the car park.
